Exhibition "Schrader, the sublime mountain"

Franz Schrader discovered the Pyrenees in 1886 alongside his friend Léonce Lourde-Rocheblave. It was love at first sight. From then on, he explored the mountains and, struck by the majesty of Mont-Perdu, explored the massif and began mapping the Central Pyrenees. In 1873, he invented the orograph, an instrument that allowed him to encompass the entire mountain landscape. Describing the relief, for the time, was a challenge. He did it with talent. With the help of the orograph, he produced numerous overviews and maps. Geographer, topographer, writer, he was also the painter of Pyrenean light. His style sought to capture the snapshot seen, almost photographic, while expressing his own poetic reading of the landscape through color. He is a "man of landscapes," which he captures in his drawings, watercolors, panoramas, and panoramas, with a keen sense of aesthetics. This exhibition explores Franz Schrader's talents and vast knowledge to reveal what guided this self-taught artist in his quest.
