FORTIFIED CASTLE - PYRENEEAN MUSEUM of Lourdes
Since the Middle Ages, this great stone vessel has watched over Lourdes and today it invites you to travel through time. The fortress has been a count's residence, a military stronghold, a royal prison and a museum. Its defensive architecture has been preserved to this day.
Located in the heart of the château, the Musée Pyrénéen, founded in 1921 by Louis and Margalide Le Bondidier, has a rich ethnographic and fine art collection tracing the history of the Pyrenees and in particular the 'Pyreneist' movement, which considers the physical experience of the mountains as inseparable from aesthetic and cultural aspects.
Enjoy an exceptional panoramic view over the town, the Sanctuary and the Pyrenees, relax in the botanical garden, a green and colorful setting, with sculptures and architectural models of different Pyrenean valleys.
